After a hitchin the army, he joins the Negro Baseball League and gains the attention of Branch Rickey, the general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers. The team decides to break the major league baseball "color barrier" and Jackie picked up as the second baseman for thier farm team in '46. With insults and racial slurs, Rickey lets Jackie know what he's in for by. He wants to test Jackie's ability to handle the ridicule he'll be faced with from fans and from some of the other players. He teaches him to have the guts not to fight back. Jackie returns that trust by helping the Dodgers to win the pennant. As a result, the exclusion of black players begins to crumple. Item #OC0045
